A walk-in wardrobe is the room people clean last and least often. The door stays shut, no dust is visible — and meanwhile it settles on the top shelves, on the hangers and on the shoe boxes. Over a year a closed wardrobe collects as much dust as a living room, except here it lies directly on your clothes.

What the cleaner does not do

The cleaner does not sort or rehang your clothes, does not rotate items by season and does not open closed boxes. Surfaces are the job, contents are not. If you want the shelves wiped on the inside, clear them before the visit — the work takes less time and the difference is visible immediately.

When it makes sense to book

Most people add the wardrobe to a deep clean, twice a year, when the seasonal change of clothes happens anyway. The second common case is a move: an empty wardrobe is faster and cheaper to clean than a full one. The third is after renovation, when construction dust settles everywhere, closed shelves included.

What determines the time

An empty 3 m² wardrobe takes twenty minutes. A full one of the same size takes an hour, because the cleaner works around your things rather than across open surfaces. The slowest parts are open shoe racks and the storage under the ceiling: dust lies there in a layer that has to come off with a damp cloth in several passes, otherwise it simply smears.

The second factor is mirrors. A wardrobe usually has two or three, and each needs its own streak-free pass. Full-height mirrored doors add about half an hour.

How to prepare for the visit

• Clear the floor of anything parked there temporarily — bags, packaging, delivery boxes.
• If you want shelves wiped inside, empty them beforehand.
• Put dirty shoes to one side — the cleaner removes grit but does not wash footwear.
• Say which shelves are better left alone: documents, electronics, fragile items.

How often it is needed

Twice a year, at the seasonal change of clothes, is enough for a closed wardrobe in a home with no smokers and no pets. If the wardrobe is open, with no doors, or a cat likes sleeping on the shelves, once a quarter makes more sense.
