Cleaning for allergy sufferers: where the dust actually lives

Dust on surfaces and dust in fibre are different problems

Someone who cleans every week and still wakes up with a blocked nose is usually fighting the wrong dust. The visible dust on shelves is what has already settled. In most homes the source is elsewhere: the mattress and the upholstery, where dust mites live and where what they feed on collects.

So cleaning for allergy sufferers is not "wipe more carefully" but two different jobs: damp cleaning of surfaces, and extraction cleaning of whatever the dust accumulates inside.

Where to start

If you do only one thing, start with the mattress. A person spends a third of every day in bed, pressed against a surface that never gets cleaned.

Next comes the sofa people sit on every evening: two-seater UAH 1,299, three-seater 1,399. Then carpets and fitted carpet at UAH 130 per square metre — they collect the dust of the whole room.

What the apartment clean contributes

Damp cleaning removes settled dust where it lands out of the air: tops of cupboards, light fittings, radiators, skirting boards, the floor under furniture. It does not replace extraction cleaning, but without it the dust is back on the upholstery within days.

The price is by rooms: one room UAH 1,550, two rooms 1,950, three rooms 2,350.

Why it has to be regular

Mites come back — this is a recurring job, not a one-off. A sensible rhythm for a home with an allergy sufferer is mattress cleaning twice a year and an apartment clean every two weeks. Regularity carries a 10 % discount at two visits a month and 15 % weekly, counted from the first order.

What helps between visits

  • Air the bedroom daily — a dry room holds mites back better than any product.
  • Vacuum the mattress once a month, slowly, with a soft attachment.
  • Wash bedding at 60 °C; lower temperatures do not kill mites.
  • Reduce the open textile surfaces in the bedroom — heavy curtains and decorative cushions collect the most dust.

Honest about the limits

Cleaning reduces the amount of allergens; it does not treat an allergy and it is not a substitute for medical advice. If the source is mould in a wall or in the ventilation, cleaning the furniture will not help — that needs a different specialist.

Build your order in the cleaning form or price the upholstery in the dry cleaning form. The minimum dry-cleaning order is UAH 2,000.

Where should I start if someone in the family has allergies?

With the mattress: UAH 600 for a single on one side, 1,100 for a double. That is where the bulk of the dust and mites collects.

Does extraction cleaning remove dust mites?

It washes both the mites and what they feed on out of the fibre. They return, though, so for an allergy sufferer it is a twice-yearly job rather than a one-off.

What do you clean with — is it safe?

Professional products matched to the fabric, fully rinsed out by the extractor. Once it is dry, after 4–8 hours, nothing remains on the surface.

What do a mattress and a sofa cost together?

A double mattress at UAH 1,100 plus a two-seater sofa at 1,299 comes to 2,399, above the UAH 2,000 dry-cleaning minimum.

Will cleaning help if the allergy is to mould?

No. Mould in a wall or in the ventilation is not a cleaning question; that needs a damp and ventilation specialist.
