Hair, litter tray and smell: cleaning a flat with pets

Three separate jobs people treat as one

"Cleaning after pets" covers at least three different jobs, and they are done in different ways. Hair is cleaning — it comes out with a vacuum and a damp wipe. Smell is dry cleaning: it lives inside the fibre of upholstery and carpets, and surface cleaning does not touch it. The litter tray is its own item at UAH 180.

Book only the cleaning and the hair disappears while the smell stays — and a few days later it feels as though the clean did nothing.

Hair: why a household vacuum falls short

Hair does not sit on the pile, it works into it. A household vacuum lifts the top layer while whatever is drawn into the base stays and rises again. That is why there is a powerful vacuum at UAH 599 for homes with animals — the cleaner brings it along.

Smell: what actually removes it

The smell holds in three places: upholstery, carpets and fitted carpet, and the mattress. All of them are cleaned with an extractor — solution goes in under pressure and comes straight back out with whatever soaked in.

The minimum dry-cleaning order is UAH 2,000, so a sofa is usually booked together with a carpet or a mattress.

What cleaning will not fix

Scratches on doors and furniture, a chewed skirting board, loops pulled out of upholstery by claws — those are damage, not dirt. The same goes for stains that have soaked through the fabric into the foam: we clean the surface, but a source of smell inside the cushion sometimes needs a second pass, and we say so before the work rather than after.

How often it is needed

Cleaning a flat with pets works well every two weeks: hair has time to accumulate but not yet to work into the pile so deeply that it has to be pulled out. Upholstery and carpet cleaning is a twice-a-year job, and the two rhythms do not replace each other.

Regular visits carry a discount: 5 % monthly, 10 % twice a month, 15 % weekly. It counts from the first order and you can cancel at any time.

If the animal has just arrived

A kitten or a puppy in the first months means puddles more than hair. Here speed matters: a fresh mark on a fitted carpet comes out almost always, while the same mark a week later has reached the backing, and the smell has to be dealt with together with the underlay.
