Appliance Cleaning: Oven, Hood, Fridge

In a base clean appliances are cleaned on the outside: fronts, handles, doors, control panels. Everything inside is a separate item, and that is not billing sleight of hand: an oven inside takes as long as the rest of the kitchen.

What it costs

• the oven inside — UAH 499;
• extractor hood with its filter — 350;
• the fridge inside — 450;
• the microwave — included in a deep kitchen clean;
• cupboards inside — 800.

If you need all of it at once, a deep kitchen clean at UAH 2,800 works out cheaper: it covers appliances inside, the hood with its filter, the cupboards and the tops of the units.

The oven

Burnt-on grease is not scrubbed off, it is softened. The product goes on cold surfaces, sits for 20–30 minutes, and only then comes off with a scraper and sponge. The heating elements, the temperature probe and the fan are never wetted: water in them means a repair, not a clean oven.

On most models the door glass comes apart — greasy condensation collects between the panes, and that is why an oven still looks dirty after the inside has been cleaned.

The extractor hood

The filter is what matters. A metal one goes in the dishwasher or soaks in hot water with soda; left for six months it halves the extraction and grease settles on the ceiling around it. A carbon filter is not washed at all — it is replaced, and that is the owner's consumable rather than the cleaner's work.

The fridge

The main work is not the shelves but the door seal: deposit collects in the folds of the rubber, and that is where the smell comes from. The freezer is cleaned only once defrosted — scraping ice damages the evaporator.

Microwave and kettle

The microwave is cleaned after steaming: a cup of water with citric acid for five minutes, then wiped. Dried-on splashes scraped off dry leave scratches in the enamel, and dirt then holds twice as well. Kettle scale comes off with citric acid — two teaspoons per 200 ml, fifteen minutes.

What we do not do

We do not dismantle appliances, take the hood off the wall or clean the ventilation duct. If there is no draw with a clean filter, the duct is the problem and a cleaner is not the answer.
